Frequently Asked Questions

How does payroll work in Belgium?

An employee’s annual salary is divided by 13.92, with employees receiving a segment each month. However, in May an additional 0.92 is paid, along with a full additional month in December. Employers can opt to provide Eco-Vouchers: a Social Security-exempt benefit employees can use to purchase ecological goods or services.

What are the standard Belgian working hours?

A standard working week in Belgium consists of 38 hours across Monday to Friday. Overtime pay is mandatory for all hours exceeding this limit, up to a maximum of 48 hours – in line with the EU directive.

What about dismissing an employee?

Employment rights are very strict in Belgium and we suggest speaking to one of our Employment Law Advisors before you take any action. Dismissals can be a very lengthy process and there are a list of steps that must be adhered to. We are able to handle all aspects of this to ensure compliance throughout the process.
